Archaeological Site of Mycenae
Mycenae is best visited as a hilltop Bronze Age citadel, with steep ground and major monuments in sequence. Its commanding position over the Argolid is part of the site’s story.
Why go
Pass through the Lion Gate and continue into the fortified citadel to understand the Mycenaean settlement beyond its famous entrance. Tombs and the museum add context, but the slope and stone underfoot slow the circuit. A visit here can form an Argolis archaeology day if road transfers are planned.
What to look for
Pass beneath the Lion Gate before tracing the citadel walls.
Useful to know
Use footwear for sloping stone paths; check the citadel, tomb and museum access details before fixing the length of the visit.
