Archaeological Site of Philippi
Philippi layers Greek, Roman and early Christian remains across one outdoor archaeological route. The changing building phases make this a stronger visit with unhurried interpretation.
The city’s theatre, forum and early Christian monuments make its layered history visible along one archaeological route. Walk between these zones rather than treating the theatre as the whole destination. The large outdoor site is better planned with transport and weather in mind, especially when coming from Kavala.
What to look for
Compare the Roman forum with the later basilica remains.
Useful to know
Allow time to move between widely spaced ruins; verify current access and arrange the return road trip from Kavala.
