Palace of Phaistos
Phaistos offers a more open Minoan palace setting on a ridge above the Messara plain. The position gives broad views, but the archaeological route is fully outdoors.
Why go
Phaistos sits above the Messara plain, and its open terraces make the palace setting as memorable as the remaining masonry. Walk the site slowly enough to see how rooms connect across levels. It differs from Knossos in its less reconstructed appearance, while its southern Crete location needs a dedicated travel leg.
What to look for
Look across the central court toward the surrounding valley.
