Why go
The harbor and capital are concentrated at the north end, while Lindos and other historic settlements sit along a much larger island. Mount Attavyros marks the high interior. Use the island’s shape to choose a coastal area or a history-focused outing before adding distant stops.
The full story
Rhodes has a long, tapering outline often compared with a spearhead. Rhodes Town occupies the northern tip, where ancient and modern harbors face the sea routes that helped the island develop. The interior rises toward Mount Attavyros, its highest point, while the coasts offer different landscapes from the built-up north to quieter stretches farther away. Lindos sits on the east side of the island; ancient Kameiros lies on the northwest coast. These places are useful geographic anchors as well as historical ones. A day built around the capital will feel different from one spent traveling to Lindos or across the island’s interior. Distances matter more here than on a small island, so it helps to group places by coast and leave time for the return journey.
