Pyrgos, Prophet Elias and the Kamari Shore
Climb from Pyrgos to the Monastery of Prophet Elias, then continue across the mountain paths toward Kamari. This is a demanding walking day that ends beside the island's black-sand shore.
Why go
This is for fit walkers who want to see Santorini beyond the caldera rim. Explore the lanes of Pyrgos before taking the uphill path to the Monastery of Prophet Elias. The monastery stop is an exterior visit and a chance to take in the island from its highest ground. From there, continue on the longer mountain route toward Kamari, passing the Ancient Thera ridge without adding another formal stop. The descent takes time, so start with plenty of daylight and carry water. Kamari provides a slower coastal finish after the exposed climb and descent.

Pyrgos climbs a hill in inland Santorini, with old lanes, churches and the ruins of the Kasteli above. Come for village architecture and wide island views.
The Monastery of Prophet Elias offers a hilltop exterior stop with a view across southern Santorini. Its fortress-like form tells a different island story from the caldera villages.
Kamari is a Santorini beach village with a long black volcanic shore. It offers a straightforward sea stop, with Ancient Thera nearby for visitors who want an archaeological contrast.
