Why go
The cathedral is one of Guangzhou's most distinctive nineteenth-century buildings. Its stone construction, pointed arches and symmetrical west front offer a focused architecture stop, while the active congregation adds living context. Tourist access must give way to worship and parish use.
What to look for
- Study the twin-spired west façade and the unusually extensive use of granite.
- Inside, notice the vertical proportions of the nave and colored light from the windows.
Useful to know
- Check current visitor access locally and avoid entering during services unless attending respectfully.
- Dress and speak quietly; photography rules may differ between the exterior and worship space.
