Why go
Tianhe offers the strongest contrast with old Liwan and Yuexiu. Broad plazas, cultural institutions and closely spaced towers reveal how Guangzhou shifted its center eastward. A selective walk works better than trying to cover the whole district, which extends well beyond the modern axis.
What to look for
- Walk Huacheng Square for aligned views of the library, museum and surrounding towers.
- Compare the newer Zhujiang New Town skyline with CITIC Plaza farther north.
Useful to know
- Choose two or three anchors before arriving; Tianhe is too large for an unfocused walk.
- Use the metro between subareas and save the central axis for late afternoon if continuing to Canton Tower.
