Getting to Hakone
Most rail journeys into Hakone run through Odawara or arrive at Hakone-Yumoto from Shinjuku. Decide which district you will visit first before choosing the final mountain connection.
Odawara is the transfer point for travelers arriving on JR lines, including the Tokaido Shinkansen. Hakone-Yumoto is the gateway for the mountain railway toward Gora and for onward buses. Odakyu services from Shinjuku offer another approach, with some trains running through to Hakone-Yumoto. A Tokyo airport arrival adds a separate journey before these Hakone connections, so an evening arrival deserves a realistic onward plan.
