Chōanji Temple
A quiet Sengokuhara temple where expressive rakan statues, each with a different face and pose, are scattered through wooded hillside paths that become especially atmospheric among autumn leaves.
Follow the short paths behind the temple and notice how each rakan statue has its own face and pose. The wooded setting makes this a compact cultural stop between the area’s larger museums and gardens. Hakone’s tourism guide and an independent travel guide both document the temple; check ground conditions after rain.
