West Lake
West Lake opens a broad waterside landscape north of central Hanoi. Choose a shoreline segment and nearby temple rather than trying to walk its whole perimeter.
The lake's scale makes it feel unlike compact Hoan Kiem: longer views, wider roads and more spread-out stops change the pace of a visit. Pair a manageable stretch of shore with Truc Bach Lake instead of trying to cover the entire perimeter. The reward is a distinct sense of northern Hanoi, not a checklist circuit.
What to look for
The wide lake gives Hanoi a different scale from the compact Old Quarter.
Thanh Nien Road separates it from the smaller Truc Bach Lake.
