Why go
This is a good first walk for visitors who want ancient Crete and a feel for the modern city in one manageable day. Give the Archaeological Museum the largest block of time; its Minoan collection makes the later streets easier to place in the island’s long story. From there, Saint George Gate and Georgiadis Park lead toward the food shops of 1866 Street. Lions Square is a natural finish with space to pause. The gate and park are short outdoor stops, so the route still works if you spend longer in the museum. Check the museum’s current opening arrangements before setting out.
