Shiretoko National Park
Shiretoko is a remote peninsula of sea ice, volcanic mountains and coastal cliffs. Its wildlife and rugged terrain are compelling, but access depends heavily on route, season and conditions.
Come for the meeting of land and sea: drift ice influences the coastal ecosystem, while volcanic ridges and cliffs make the peninsula feel markedly different from Hokkaido’s town-based stops. The park’s remoteness is part of the experience, so a chosen viewpoint or route matters more than trying to cover it all.
