Onward to Guangzhou from Hong Kong
Guangzhou, historically known as Canton, lies upstream on the Pearl River. A high-speed rail connection supports an onward trip focused on the older trading geography behind Hong Kong.
Hong Kong / Your next move
Bring this chapter to life.
Keep exploring Hong Kong with our travel partners.
Guangzhou broadens a harbour-focused trip by taking the story inland along the Pearl River. It was a major maritime Silk Road terminus and, for a period, the port through which most foreign traders could trade with China. The later rise of Hong Kong and Shanghai changed those commercial relationships.
Useful to know
Check the arrival station when comparing high-speed trains, then plan the onward journey within Guangzhou.
Confirm mainland entry requirements before booking; assess your return to Hong Kong separately.
