Tin Hau Temple in Joss House Bay
Make a separate excursion to this sea-facing temple for maritime religious traditions beyond the city centre. The stepped land approach makes it a more deliberate visit than Causeway Bay’s shrine.

The operator dates the temple to around 1266, giving its seafront setting a long historical perspective. Inside, miniature vessels connect devotion to Tin Hau with the people who travelled and worked on the water. The projecting entrance porch and surviving Qing ritual objects make this more than a distant counterpart to Hong Kong Island’s urban temples.
What to look for
Two stone columns support the projecting entrance porch.
Two miniature vessels, each about 2.5 metres long, stand in the main hall.
A Qing incense burner, ceremonial pot and bell survive.
Useful to know
Plan for the stepped descent from the Clear Water Bay Golf & Country Club area and the return climb.
Confirm the transport plan before leaving; the approach time is separate from time spent in the temple.
