Why go
The deep, sheltered water between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon helped make the city a trading centre. Reclamation has repeatedly moved its edges, so today’s skyline also records a changing coast. Tsim Sha Tsui, West Kowloon and Golden Bauhinia Square offer different land-based perspectives; a ferry ride adds the experience of moving between them.
What to look for
- Hong Kong Island and southern Kowloon form the harbour’s opposing shores.
- The Star Ferry brings both skylines into view from the water.
Useful to know
- Choose a specific promenade or ferry pier before setting out; the harbour itself is not a pedestrian arrival point.
- Compare a shoreline view with a ferry crossing rather than expecting every waterfront stop to offer the same perspective.
