Beersheba
Beersheba is the Negev's main urban center, useful for desert history, regional transport and understanding modern settlement beyond the coastal cities.
Why go
Look for the Ottoman and British-planned core, then connect it with regional museums or the nearby desert landscape. Beersheba is more valuable as a gateway and historical layer than as a dense sightseeing center. Travelers continuing south should use the city to reset supplies and timing before longer stretches toward Mitzpe Ramon or Eilat.
What to look for
The old city preserves traces of Ottoman and British planning.
The city marks the transition between the populated center and the wider Negev.
Useful to know
Check onward transport carefully; desert attractions beyond the city are widely spaced.
