Why go
Start with one accessible anchor on the Negev incense route rather than trying to cover its widely scattered desert cities. Continue to Ein Avdat for the canyon and spring-fed cliffs, choosing a trail that matches the heat and current access direction. Drive south to Makhtesh Ramon and finish at a signed overlook while the basin's relief is clear in lower light. Distances are substantial and shade is limited, so carry water and treat any extra archaeological stop as optional. This route needs a vehicle and should be abandoned during flood or extreme-heat warnings.

Makhtesh Ramon
Makhtesh Ramon is a vast erosion cirque cut into the high Negev around Mitzpe Ramon. Overlooks and short trails make complex geology visible at a scale that ordinary canyon viewpoints rarely achieve.
