From the Italy World / Areas
Cinque Terre
Five villages sit between steep terraced hills and the Ligurian Sea. Come for the close succession of coastal views and village streets, with rail and walking routes shaping how you explore.
Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore make a compact but varied coastal area. The villages and the terraces above them show how people settled a difficult slope, while the paths offer a different view of the coastline from the one seen at sea level.
What to look for
Terraces climb the steep hillsides above the villages and the sea.
The five villages form part of Cinque Terre National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Useful to know
Use the train to link villages, then choose a walking section for a closer look at the terraces.
Check current path conditions before committing to a walk between villages.
