Herculaneum Archaeological Park
Herculaneum is a compact excavated Roman town where buildings and street levels survive in striking depth, making a rewarding half-day archaeological visit.
Why go
Walk its cardo streets and look into houses to compare their rooms with the modern town above the excavation. The ancient settlement was buried in the same eruption as Pompeii, but is a separate site and ticket in Ercolano. Its smaller footprint helps visitors see domestic detail.
What to look for
Preserved roman streets.
Multistorey houses.
