Noto
Noto's planned streets and warm stone façades tell the story of a Sicilian town rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake. Its Baroque centre works well on foot.
Walk Corso Vittorio Emanuele toward the cathedral square to read the rebuilt town as a whole. The grid and repeated late Baroque façades matter as much as individual churches. Noto Antica, the earlier settlement north of town, makes clear that today's centre occupies a new site.
What to look for
Late Baroque façades line the rebuilt streets.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele leads through the planned centre.
The cathedral square gathers the town's monumental architecture.
Useful to know
Follow the main street before branching into smaller streets to understand the plan.
Treat Noto Antica as a separate outing rather than part of the central walk.
