Verona
Verona brings Roman remains, medieval squares and the Adige river into a compact historic centre. It suits a city walk that moves beyond its Shakespeare associations.
Start at the Arena to see the Roman scale of the city, then follow the streets through Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori. Ponte Pietra gives a different view: the historic centre sits inside a bend of the Adige. These layers explain Verona better than a single literary stop.
What to look for
The Roman Arena stands beside the broad space of Piazza Bra.
Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori show two distinct historic public spaces.
Ponte Pietra frames the Adige and the old city's river bend.
Useful to know
Use the Arena, central squares and Ponte Pietra as a walking sequence.
Check separate entry details before planning time inside the Arena or other buildings.
