Why go
Begin at Fushimi Inari-taisha and choose how far to climb before entering the torii-lined mountain paths. A lower-precinct visit preserves energy for the rest of the day; a full mountain circuit requires a longer allowance. Continue by public transport toward Higashiyama, then walk uphill to Kiyomizu-dera. Give the main hall and paths beyond its stage time before descending through the historic streets toward Gion. Finish with a respectful neighbourhood walk, observing private-lane and photography restrictions. These stops connect contrasting forms of worship with Kyoto’s traditional townscape. Allow a full day with lunch and transit rather than treating the three places as adjacent attractions.
