Why go
The distinction between these services matters more than the word “bus”. Rea Vaya is built around dedicated lanes, Metrobus provides city routes, and minibus taxis have their own routing practices. Understanding those differences helps you ask the right questions about stops, connections and the return journey.
The full story
Rea Vaya is Johannesburg’s Bus Rapid Transit system. Its dedicated lanes and designated stops distinguish it from informal minibuses that can be hailed along the road. Metrobus is a separate city-bus service; a route on one system does not establish that another serves the same destination. For a specific outing, check the operator’s current route information against both your starting point and your destination. Establish where you board and leave, whether a transfer is involved, and how you will return. A main corridor alone may not cover the whole trip. If considering a minibus taxi, get help from someone who knows that particular route and confirm the destination and any changes before boarding. Treat the bus systems as distinct choices rather than interchangeable ways to make an unfamiliar journey.
