Sentech Tower
The telecommunications tower in Brixton is a distinctive western skyline landmark. Regard it as something to recognise from outside, rather than a destination for an observation-deck visit.

Sentech Tower helps you read Johannesburg’s skyline beyond the better-known Hillbrow area. Built in the early 1960s, it belongs to the city’s broadcasting infrastructure and is also known historically as Brixton Tower. Comparing its silhouette with Hillbrow Tower gives two similar-looking landmarks separate locations and identities.
What to look for
The Brixton tower forms a western counterpart to Hillbrow Tower.
Construction took place from 1961 to 1962.
Useful to know
Plan an exterior or skyline view; do not make plans around access to the former observation deck.
