Why go
This route suits visitors who want to connect Kyiv’s medieval monuments with the buildings and people of its historic hillside. Start at Golden Gate, allowing time to distinguish surviving masonry from the reconstruction, then give Saint Sophia’s Cathedral the longest visit for its mosaics and frescoes. Continue to the Baroque silhouette and interior of St Andrew’s Church before walking down Andriivskyi Descent. The descent adds slopes and uneven walking to a day already spent on foot. One Street Museum provides an optional final chapter about the street’s residents; the descent itself also makes a satisfying finish.
