Why go
The estate charts an unusual path from a private 1928 mansion to the residence of Malaysia’s head of state and, later, the Old National Palace. Even from the entrance, the formal gateway, royal insignia and commanding hillside position communicate its former ceremonial role.
What to look for
- A formal arched gateway with guard posts and royal insignia worked into the fence
- A hilltop estate overlooking the Klang River from the Bukit Petaling slope
- The former royal residence, adapted from a mansion originally known as the Big House
Useful to know
- Check current public access before travelling there; do not rely on the former museum arrangement.
- Treat the gateway and hillside setting as the dependable focus if the interior is unavailable.
