Why go
The Mirage matters historically because its 1989 opening established a new model for destination resorts built around spectacle, landscaping and entertainment. That visitor experience no longer operates: the site entered a major Hard Rock redevelopment. Keep the name as context for reading Las Vegas history, not as an active stop or a place to approach during construction.
What to look for
- Its former volcano made free exterior spectacle central to a resort identity.
- The tropical arrival sequence influenced later themed properties along the Strip.
Useful to know
- Do not plan a visit to the closed property or enter construction areas.
- Use the Neon Museum and Strip history displays for surviving context instead.
