Choosing a Lima District

Lima's main visitor districts offer different days out: civic architecture in the Historic Centre, museums in Pueblo Libre, coastal Miraflores and music-oriented Barranco. Travel between them takes planning.

Why go

Use the districts to group sights before choosing transport. In the centre, Plaza Mayor and Plaza San Martín anchor a walk among civic buildings and churches near the Rímac River. Pueblo Libre draws museum visitors, while Miraflores offers hotels and restaurants farther south. Barranco, beyond Miraflores, is a separate stop for cafés and live music.

Useful to know

  • Explore nearby sights within one district on foot, then plan a separate ride for a move across the city.
  • Pair Plaza Mayor with Plaza San Martín for a centre-focused outing; keep Pueblo Libre's museums as a distinct stop.
