Vasco da Gama Tower
A high viewpoint over Parque das Nações and the Tagus is the main reason to enter this Expo-era tower, now integrated with a hotel.
Why go
The tower offers a vertical reading of eastern Lisbon: the planned Expo ’98 district, riverfront and South Bank spread below. Its steel frame represents a caravel sail, tying the modern skyline to the maritime explorer whose name the structure carries.
What to look for
The steel structure was designed to suggest the sail of a caravel.
The viewpoint looks over Parque das Nações, the Tagus and the South Bank.
The tower was built for Expo ’98 and later incorporated into a riverside hotel.
Useful to know
Check viewpoint access separately from the rooftop bar, which operates under different conditions.
Visit on a clear day if the panorama is your priority.
Combine the ascent with the Parque das Nações promenade or Oceanário rather than making a separate trip east.
