Downtown History and Architecture

Begin at Olvera Street and Union Station, continue through City Hall and the Cathedral, then finish among Grand Avenueʼs modern cultural architecture.

Downtown History and Architecture

Why go

Start at Olvera Street and the old plaza, then cross to Union Station for its grand working interior. Continue through City Hall and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels before finishing at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Grand Avenue. Chinatown and Little Tokyo add valuable community history but pull the route in different directions. This is a demanding one-day grouping, not a checklist: keep the four main anchors essential and choose only one neighborhood extension if walking conditions, heat and access remain comfortable.

Useful to know

  • Treat Chinatown, Little Tokyo and the Financial District as optional extensions when time remains.
  • Allow for the uphill move from the historic plaza toward Grand Avenue.
