Before choosing a route, think of one thing you would like to remember tomorrow. A face? A glimpse of ancient daily life? The story of this enormous building? That is enough to give your visit a direction.

For familiar images

Choose First visit: images that stay with you if you want sculpture, Leonardo and large French paintings in one visit. Allow roughly an hour and forty minutes to two hours and twenty minutes inside. A long wait for the Mona Lisa can add to that estimate.

For ancient lives

Choose Egypt: images for life and the afterlife if writing tools, household objects and beliefs draw you in. Allow roughly an hour and forty minutes to two hours and fifteen minutes. The route connects ordinary needs with the wish for life to continue.

For the building itself

Choose From fortress to palace to museum if you keep wondering what these rooms were before the artworks arrived. Allow roughly an hour and a half to two hours. You begin outside and continue through the museum.

Leave room to pause

These are estimates, with admission and security waits additional. All three visits involve walking and level changes. Choose one, check its access notes and let yourself stop when your attention starts to fade. A few works seen carefully can make a satisfying visit.
