Moorish Barracks

See the Indo-Portuguese arches of a nineteenth-century waterfront barracks from the street; the building and veranda are currently closed for works.

Why go

The long veranda and pointed arches make the former barracks unlike the churches and civic buildings nearby. It housed an Indian regiment brought from Goa and now serves the Marine and Water Bureau. The stop is a short architectural look while walking between A-Ma Temple and Lilau Square; do not plan on entering until the official site confirms reopening.

What to look for

  • Pointed arches and a long shaded veranda
  • Moghul details within a neoclassical facade

Useful to know

  • View from Calçada da Barra; the barracks and veranda are marked temporarily closed.
