From the Machu Picchu World / Areas

Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley is a broad, inhabited Urubamba River corridor between Cusco and the Machu Picchu area. Plan it through its towns and sites rather than as one single stop.

Sacred Valley

Why go

The valley connects cultivated land and living towns with Inca places such as Ollantaytambo and Moray. Moving between them explains how settlements, roads and farming occupied the river landscape. Pick a small number of anchors for a day; the valley is too extensive to treat every named site as one compact visit.

What to look for

  • The Urubamba/Vilcanota River threads through cultivated valley land.
  • Ollantaytambo and Moray show different sides of Inca building and farming.

Useful to know

  • Choose specific towns or archaeological sites before planning transport across the valley.
  • Check each attraction's own access rules; the valley has no single admission gate.
