Pikillaqta Archaeological Park
Pikillaqta’s gridded walls reveal a large settlement from before the Inca period. It adds chronological depth to a southern Cusco route.
Why go
The size and regular layout are the point of the visit: walk enough of the site to sense its plan, then compare it with Tipón’s terraces. That sequence keeps the southern excursion from becoming a series of similar ruins. Its long wall lines are best judged from a distance.
What to look for
The planned walls and compounds predate Inca Cusco.
Useful to know
Visit with Tipón and Andahuaylillas by road; the sites are too far apart to walk between comfortably.
