Puka Pukara
Puka Pukara is a compact group of terraces and rooms on the route north of Cusco. It works best with Tambomachay, a short distance away.
Why go
Its modest structures broaden the story of Inca building beyond the city’s ceremonial highlights. The highland setting and layered walls are easy to understand on a short walk, while Tambomachay adds the different theme of water engineering to the same excursion.
What to look for
Terraces and masonry structures sit beside the old route.
Useful to know
Use a vehicle for the long leg from central Cusco; pair this stop with nearby Tambomachay.
