Putucusi
Putucusi is the rounded mountain facing Machu Picchu across the Urubamba River. Its historical climbing route involved exposed wooden steps; current ascent access and safety are unverified.
Why go
Recognizing Putucusi clarifies the shape of the Machu Picchu landscape: the river separates the famous Inca ridge from this opposing peak. Historical descriptions of a laddered ascent should not be read as a current invitation to climb. Appreciate the mountain as part of the view unless authorized access and safe conditions are independently confirmed.
What to look for
The rounded peak rises opposite Machu Picchu across the Urubamba River.
Useful to know
Do not plan an ascent without current confirmation of public access and route safety.
