Why go
Málaga's port is central but individual cruise berths vary, while road arrivals face restricted old-town access. A precise arrival point matters more than the city's compact appearance, especially with luggage or a timed departure. This distinction gives Arriving by Road or Sea a clearer place in a realistic Málaga plan.
The full story
Intercity buses generally use the terminal beside María Zambrano station, west of the old centre. Drivers approach through larger urban roads but should not expect to cross the pedestrian core or find easy curbside parking beside every hotel. Arrange a garage or confirmed drop-off before arrival. At sea, the Port of Málaga includes several passenger and cruise areas. Some berths connect readily with the public waterfront, while others require a shuttle or longer transfer. Use the cruise line and port information for the actual berth, not a generic map pin. Ferries or excursion boats may use different points again. Keep enough margin for security and the walk back through the port. Once you have left luggage, the centre is best explored on foot. The key is to separate vehicle access from sightseeing rather than trying to keep a car close to every central stop.
