Why go
A few planning choices prevent most friction: verify current tickets and worship access, move exposed climbs out of peak heat, and distinguish compact central walking from the much longer waterfront. This distinction gives Practical Málaga a clearer place in a realistic Málaga plan.
The full story
Use the old centre as the walking core for Atarazanas, the cathedral, Picasso sites, Roman Theatre and Alcazaba entrance. Treat Gibralfaro as a hill outing with water, sun protection and an honest assessment of the climb. María Zambrano station and the bus terminal stand west of the centre; the airport lies farther southwest. La Malagueta is close to the port, but Pedregalejo and El Palo continue well east and deserve their own time. Opening hours, event routes, prices and reservation rules change, so confirm them through official sources shortly before the visit. Churches may restrict sightseeing during worship, and seasonal festivals can close streets. Carry comfortable shoes for polished paving, steps and fortress surfaces. In summer, plan indoor museums or a long meal during the strongest heat. Málaga rewards compact clusters: one demanding hill, one central museum sequence or one coastal outing will feel fuller than constant crossing.
