English Cemetery
Spain's first Protestant cemetery climbs a gardened slope above the coast. Its graves, small Anglican church and expatriate history make a quiet, reflective visit.
Why go
The cemetery records how Málaga's foreign communities navigated burial outside Catholic ground in the nineteenth century. Terraces, mature planting and varied monuments turn that history into a physical landscape. It offers a more intimate account of the port city's international ties than the monumental centre does.
What to look for
Terraced paths hold nineteenth-century graves and funerary sculpture.
St George's Anglican church stands within the cemetery grounds.
The site preserves the history of British and other Protestant residents.
Useful to know
Wear shoes suited to sloping, uneven paths.
Keep voices low and treat the grounds as an active place of memory, not a park.
