Blue Grotto

Blue Grotto combines a large coastal arch with sea caverns near Wied iż-Żurrieq, giving you a worthwhile land outlook and a separate boat experience when conditions allow.

Blue Grotto

Why go

The arch makes the south coast’s limestone scale easy to read from above, while the caverns change the relationship between rock, light and water at sea level. These are two different ways to appreciate the same formation. A short coastal stop can therefore still have value when a boat trip does not fit your day.

What to look for

  • A broad limestone arch rises above the sea.
  • Cavern openings lie near Wied iż-Żurrieq.
  • Light reaching the water creates changing blue reflections.

Useful to know

  • Confirm boat operations and sea conditions before heading to the harbour.
  • Keep the land viewpoint as an alternative to a cavern boat trip.
  • Combine this coastal stop with Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra using a separate road transfer.
