Popeye Village

A wooden film-set village at Anchor Bay became a family attraction after the 1980 Popeye musical. Its colourful buildings offer a deliberately theatrical contrast to Malta's limestone towns.

Popeye Village

Why go

The setting preserves Sweethaven, built for the film starring Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. Nineteen wooden buildings were assembled using imported timber and shingles, and a breakwater protected the bay during filming. The surviving set lets visitors recognise the construction and visual storytelling behind a screen location.

What to look for

  • Sweethaven's wooden buildings
  • Anchor Bay and its breakwater
  • Film-production props in the village

Useful to know

  • Check the operator's seasonal activity programme before choosing your visit.
  • Combine the Anchor Bay setting with other Mellieħa-area stops.
