Why go
The gardens grew around Antoine de Paule's country residence, which expanded into a palace after he became Grand Master. Parts opened to the public in 1882, so the grounds bridge private ceremonial space and everyday recreation. Their planted avenues and water features provide a different outdoor experience from Malta's coastal viewpoints.
What to look for
- Tree-lined garden paths
- Ponds and fountains
- The San Anton Palace setting
Useful to know
- Plan a garden visit independently of access to the presidential palace.
- Combine the grounds with nearby Attard rather than treating them as a Valletta walking stop.
