From the Malta World / Places

Wied il-Għasri

A narrow sea canyon cuts into Gozo's northern coast and ends at a small beach. Its enclosed limestone scenery makes a distinctive outdoor stop with limited shoreline space.

Wied il-Għasri

Why go

High cliffs flank the inlet, keeping the beach well inland from the open sea. The gorge continues towards Għasri, so the view shows both coastal erosion and the shape of a valley. The small cove rewards looking along the water's length rather than expecting the broad sand found at Ramla.

What to look for

  • The narrow inlet between high cliffs
  • The small beach inside the gorge
  • The valley extending towards Għasri

Useful to know

  • Combine the gorge with other northern Gozo coastal stops.
  • Assess sea conditions before entering the confined inlet; a viewpoint visit has its own value.
