Wildlife from the mountains to Cabopino
Marbella’s natural habitats range from wooded mountain slopes to the Artola dunes and Mediterranean seagrass near Cabopino, offering distinct settings beyond the developed shoreline.
At Dunas de Artola, look for the plants that give the sandy coast its own character: marram grass, sea holly, sea daffodils and large-fruited juniper. Inland, chestnut trees and ferns belong to a contrasting mountain landscape, where the variety of habitats supports birds of prey and mammals.
What to look for
Posidonia oceanica, a Mediterranean seagrass, occurs in the Cabopino area.
Mountain fauna includes Bonelli’s eagles, golden eagles, wild goats and genets.
Aleppo and maritime pines are among the trees found around the mountains.
