Why go
The building is one of the CBD’s most theatrical pieces of architecture. Minarets, patterned surfaces and a blue, star-like ceiling create an atmosphere unlike Melbourne’s more formal 19th-century venues. It is worth noticing from Flinders Street, but a performance gives the only reliable way to understand the auditorium and its scale.
What to look for
- Study the towers and patterned facade from across Flinders Street.
- Inside, look up at the deep-blue ceiling and elaborate side walls.
Useful to know
- Buy for a performance if the interior is your main reason to go.
- Check venue access information because the historic layout has constraints.
