Begin with the young man in a red cap. Cosmè Tura shows him in strict profile, so you can follow the outline from forehead to chin. The next paintings give you other ways to meet a face. Vermeer places a woman between a window and a pitcher. Rembrandt looks outward from beneath a dark cap. Juan de Pareja, painted by Velázquez during his enslavement, later built his own career as an artist. Degas pushes a sitter to the edge of a bouquet, while Van Gogh builds his own likeness from marks you can pick out one by one. The six stops are on Floor 2 and take about an hour and a half to two hours, including walking and pauses. Start with Portrait of a Young Man in Gallery 611.
