Acapulco
Acapulco wraps around a deep Pacific bay, combining a long port history with twentieth-century resort development. Different parts of the bay offer different historical settings for a coastal stay.
The semicircular bay gives Acapulco its basic shape and explains its importance as a port from the colonial period. Its later fame as a resort grew especially in the 1950s. The older resort area at the northern end and later development farther south help you read that transition when deciding where to stay.
