Mazatlán
Mazatlán combines a Pacific beach destination with the history of a working seaport. Its position opposite southern Baja California gives it a different geographic setting from Mexico’s Caribbean resorts.
The city’s character extends beyond its resort beaches. Nineteenth-century trade connected the port with nearby gold and silver mines, while German immigration left traces in brewing and local music. That commercial past offers a useful lens for understanding Mazatlán alongside its role as a coastal holiday destination.
What to look for
The Pacific coast faces the southern end of the Baja California Peninsula.
The port’s trading history links the coast with inland mining districts.
