Mérida Cathedral
Visit Mérida's monumental cathedral beside the main square, where a restrained exterior and spacious interior introduce the architecture of the city's colonial center.
The cathedral anchors a compact group of major sights around Mérida's Plaza Grande. Its stone mass and twin towers provide a useful comparison with the more elaborate domestic façade of Casa de Montejo nearby. Taking time to look at the building's proportions reveals a different visual language from the richly ornamented churches found elsewhere in Mexico.
