From the Miami World / Areas
Everglades National Park
A vast wetland of sawgrass, mangroves and wildlife southwest of Miami, requiring a chosen entrance and enough time for a real nature outing.
Why go
The Everglades is not one roadside viewpoint. Its freshwater sloughs, marl prairie, hardwood hammocks, mangroves and estuaries support distinct wildlife and change dramatically between wet and dry seasons. From Miami, Shark Valley or the Homestead entrance can each shape a very different day, so choosing the access area matters more than assembling a long attraction list.
What to look for
Sawgrass wetlands crossed by slow-moving water
Alligators, wading birds and other wildlife adapted to seasonal flooding
Contrasting ecosystems from pinelands to mangrove coast
Useful to know
Choose one entrance before leaving Miami; park roads do not connect every visitor area.
Check National Park Service conditions and prepare for heat, rain, mosquitoes and limited shade.
